Bible Study Favorites

One of the questions I get asked the most is “how do I study the Bible?”. That is a loaded question. Below you will find some of my favorite resources that I use on a daily basis to study the Bible. Resources are a guide, they are not the Holy Spirit. First and foremost, Hebrews 4:12 tells us that “The word of God is living and active…”. The Holy Spirit helps us know and interpret the word, while God graces us with people and resources that can come along side us as a guide to help understand scripture.

  1. One of the my favorite resources for studying the bible is my ESV Study Bible . This Bible includes cross-references, maps, historical context, and further explanation of verses that makes studying the Bible much clearer. My favorite part of my study Bible is explaining historical context of verses, and connecting scripture to other parts of scripture.

2. The Tony Evans Bible Commentary is one of my favorite practical explanations of scripture from a brilliant mind. Tony Evans has an incredible ability of taking difficult concepts and breaking down in a way that is easy to understand. He also has a Study Bible.

3. Having a good journal to write down everything God is speaking to you through the word is extremely important. It is so powerful to go back and read all that God has shown and done. These Moleskin Notebooks are my favorite because they are durable and they lay flat so you don’t have to hold the notebook open while you are writing.

4. One of my favorite things I started doing in 2020 was writing in a 5-year Journal. For each day of the year, there are 5 lines for 5 different years of journal entries. I will write prayer requests, funny things that have happened, things that have brought me joy. And then, when I get to that day the following year, I can read about everything God was doing in my life and my heart one year ago. It has been such a humble reminder of God’s goodness and faithfulness on so many occasions. I can’t tell you how many times I have read about things I was praying for that I am now walking in.

I hope these resources are helpful for you as you dive deeper into the Word of God!
